1900 BAND
Grades 9-12
Prerequisite: Member of 8th grade band
Year Course 1.00 Credit or with permission from
the band director.
The principal
purpose is the development of intelligent musicianship. From participation in this class students
should gain not only the skills and techniques necessary for performance, but
also an understanding, and appreciation for the music played. These understandings should be both general
and specific and should provide a generative basis for continuing participation
in music throughout life. The creative
and thinking skills developed in this class will also serve as a catalyst for
better understanding and performance on the required state proficiency tests. Development of life skills are also an
essential part of this class.
Rules and
evaluation procedures are listed in the band handbook. These rules and evaluations must be read and
agreed to by the class participants, and their parents. Short taped playing assignments, prepared by
the student at home, may become a part of the graded evaluation.
1901 CHOIR
Grades 9-12

Days of the Week)
The purpose of
the choir is to help the student develop his or her singing voice to the extent
that he or she would feel comfortable using their talent after they leave the
classroom. Further, to develop an appreciation of many styles and types of
music. The creative and thinking skills
developed in this class will also serve as a catalyst for better understanding
and performance on the required state proficiency tests. Techniques studied include correct breathing,
posture, vowel formation and tone production.
SCHEDULED
REQUIRED PERFORMANCES INCLUDE: Pops
Concert, Christmas Concert, Choir Adjudicated Events, and Spring Concert. Other opportunities include District Choir,
Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Events and
Show Choir

This class will
meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the 1st Semester and
Wednesdays during the 2nd Semester as pullouts from Choir.
Audition is
required for enrollment. Techniques of good singing are refined. Movement and
dance are also added to the music. The Show
Choir has more performances in and around the community.
1902 MUSIC THEORY

This course is
open to any student that wants to learn the fundamentals of music theory. This subject is an independent, self-study,
computer-oriented course. After the
student has worked through the graduated progressions of study, he or she
should have a working knowledge of the basics of music theory. This would be an excellent course for those
students considering music as a major in college. The grade for the course will be determined
from the evaluation provided at the end of each level of study.
