The complete accounting cycle is presented for sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations.  Special emphasis is on accounting systems using special journals to record business transactions.  The Fitness Junction business simulation provides students with a realistic experience in partnership accounting.  Recommended for students exploring a career in accounting and all college-bound students planning to major in business.

 

1203    ACCOUNTING II

The first semester of this course will be spent working on computerized accounting.  The second semester will be spent working on units on Control Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Sales Accounting, Departmental Accounting, etc.

 

1205    DESKTOP PUBLISHING

Grades 10-12                                                              Prerequisite: Keyboarding A

This class will teach students Desktop Publishing using PageMaker 6.5.  Topics will include: basic PageMaker skills, page setup and layout grids, placing and editing fax, working with text blocks, hyphenation and special affects using text, drawing with PageMaker, adding and modifying graphics and templates, style sheets, and table editor.  Students will complete a textbook the first semester and the second semester will be application of skills learned in the first semester.

 

Students will also be exposed to various aspects of the computers they will be using throughout the class.        

           

1206    WEB PAGE CONSTRUCTION

Grades 9-12                                                                Prerequisite: Keyboarding A

This course is open to any student who wants to learn the basics of constructing a web page or develop skills in more advanced topics.  Each student will design his/her own web page and update it periodically.  Once proficiency in the basic skills has been established, each student will select Parkway web pages to create or maintain.  Evaluation for the purpose of assigning a grade will be based on quantity and quality of assignments completed, and or improvement.

 

Students that have passed semester one of Web Page Design may take a second semester with the permission of the teacher.  The second semester students will be in charge of maintaining and updating the schools web pages.

 

 

1207    COMPUTER APPLICATIONS                                 

Grades 9-12                                                                Prerequisite: Keyboarding A

Computer Applications is a Semester course that will be divided into four parts.  The first five weeks will be spent working on Word, which is a word-processing program that turns the computer into a fancy typewriter, which allows you to make corrections and revisions much easier than on the typewriter.  The next six weeks will be spent on Excel, which is a spreadsheet program that is used in many different business applications.  The next six weeks will be spent working on Access, which is a data base program that allows you to store and retrieve data in many different ways.  The rest of the time will be spent working on Power Point, which is a presentation program.  At the end of the semester, the Bowling Green State University assessment test of basic computer competency for incoming freshman to Bowling Green State University’s education program will be given.

1208    KEYBOARDING A

Students will learn keyboarding on computers and will polish skills with Cortez Peters’ Championship Typing Drills.  Students will be able to type memos, letters, reports, tables, make corrections, center materials, and proofread.  Students will be evaluated on accuracy, speed and production ability.

                                                                                                  

1209    KEYBOARDING B                                      

Grades 9-12                                                                Prerequisite: Keyboarding A

Keyboarding B is a continuation of Keyboarding A.  Students will be able to type outlines, tabulated tables and more sophisticated forms.  Students will complete an office simulation.  Both Keyboarding A & B are required to take Word Processing.

 

1210    WORD PROCESSING

Grades 10-12                                                              Prerequisite: Keyboarding A & B

Word Processing will be taught with the use of Microsoft Word 2000.  The first nine weeks students will complete “Mous Certification Review” for Microsoft 2000.   Students will review word processing.  The second semester will involve keying exercises applying and integrating word- processing, database and spread sheet.  Keyboarding A & B are required.

 

 

 

1214    NOTE TAKING I

Grades 9-12

Note Taking is an abbreviated writing system based primarily in longhand and secondly on phonetics.  Note Taking does not require memorizing a new alphabet or changing one’s normal writing style.  There are no special symbols.  Note Taking is NOT designed for extremely high writing speeds.  However, students should be able to increase their writing speed significantly.  This course would be a great asset to the college student for note taking.

 

1215    NOTE TAKING II

This class presents advanced transcription procedures and allows students who have previously learned the principles of Note Taking to transcribe at a higher level of proficiency.

 

1216    STREET LAW

Grades 9-12

If you are interested in the subject of law and the legal system, this course will definitely be of interest to you.  The subject material includes the study of criminal law and civil law which includes a study of trial procedures, preparing students for a visit to the court house to view an actual trial.  This course also provides a study of contacts, juvenile justice, consumer and family law, wills, car and life insurance and other legal situations.  This course is recommended for students exploring a career in law or law enforcement and all college-bound students planning to major in business.

 

1217    PERSONAL MONEY MANAGEMENT

Personal Money Management is a course designed to help young people understand many of the financial options presented to them.  Credit card or debit card, cash value insurance, term insurance or none at all?  What mutual fund for your 401(K)?  Why does my car insurance cost so much?  Why do I need health insurance?
