Principal's Message

                                OCTOBER, 2020

Dear Parents:

On October 21-22, our 3rd graders will be taking the Fall ELA AIR test.  With the 3rd Grade Reading Guarantee, students must achieve a minimum score on this test or an alternate test in order to be promoted to 4th grade.  Students need a promotion score of 46 or an overall score of 683 or higher.  Students who do not reach the needed score will be given an alternate test in January to reach the required score.  An additional opportunity to achieve the score will be on the Spring ELA and a summer alternate test if necessary.  Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast that morning so your child can perform to the best of their ability.

We are past the halfway point of the first grading period, which means parent-teacher conferences will be coming up in November.  The conference dates are November 5, 12, 19 and 23. We are limiting the number of parents in the building at one time and using specific doors to enter depending on grade level.  Please remain in your vehicle and your child’s teacher will come to the door when ready for you. Masks and social distancing are required. Of course, you may call or email your child’s teacher at any time if you have questions to be answered or concerns to be addressed.

We are still collecting BoxTops for Education.  You may either cut them out to turn in or scan them (there are instructions on Facebook).  The turn in date is October 26. Please help us out and bring those in.  Our COSI on Wheels assemblies are normally paid with some of these proceeds, so it is a great help to our school!

Also, we have 19-20 yearbooks for $25 for hardcover and $20 for soft cover, first come, first served.  We also have yearbooks from years past -- 2015-2016 through 2018-2019 are $10 each.  1992-1993 through 2014-2015 are $6 each or 2 for $10.  Payment of cash or checks made payable to Parkway Local Schools.

Please remind your child to bring a water bottle to school every day.  We are happy to provide one if they forget, however, it has become a frequent occurrence for some students. Thank you for your help with this matter!

Monday, October 12 is a teacher workday for professional development, so there is no school for students.
