Important Dates:

March 15-19: Sophomore Ohio Graduation Tests

Weds, March 24: Post-Secondary Option meeting -Community Room, 7:00 p.m.

March 25: Owens Community College Tech Prep Natural Sciences Day at Toledo-area campus. Learn about the latest in jobs & trends in landscape, diesel, or environmental industry and how yu can earn the first two years of a bachelor’s degree & then transfer to a four-year school such as OSU, BGSU, University of Toledo, etc. Lunch will be provided. Begins at 10:00 a.m. See Mrs. McConahay for RSVP and more information.

April 22: WSU-Lake Campus Open House from 4-7 pm. Senior application fee for seniors will be waived if you attend!

IPFW Health Career Day – Friday, March 5 from 9-11:45. Learn about careers in a variety of workshops, presentations, and table clinics in health related fields. Register on-line at www.ipfw.edu/admissions

 

Ohio University Summer Honors Academy: June 21-July 23 for high achieving, self-motivated students who are capable of doing college level work. Application materials must be postmarked by May 3, 2010. College courses are offered as well as career & academic discipline exploration seminars, social activities and mentoring by undergraduate students. Students 15 years or older who have completed their sophomore year and one course of high school biology, may participate in OSU’s Island Campus on Lake Erie to earn college credit in summer 2009. Scholarships and jobs are available. Visit: www.stonelab.osu.edu or call 614.292.8949.

 

Women in Engineering Summer Camp: for female students who have completed 9th grade or are a sophomore, junior, senior or just graduated from high school. Cost for Sunday through Friday camp is $475 to University of Dayton School of Engineering. All expenses are included in the fee. Juniors – The US Military Academy will host two sessions of Summer Leaders Seminar in 2010. Must be in top 5th of class. Info at www.Admissions.WestPoint.edu by April 1, 2010.

 

Junior Athletes: Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center if you plan to participate in college athletics. Log on at www.eligibilitycenter.org, select the “Fall 2010 or after” icon, select “New Account” tab at top of screen to begin the registration process. Then apply for admission to colleges of interest.

 

Seniors:

Construction Craft Laborer Apprenticeship Program: “Building Careers in Construction” Female & Minority participation is encouraged. Applications are accepted once a year around March or April. You must be 18 with a valid drivers license or state ID, be physically able to perform the work of the trade, have a high school diploma or GED, pass a drug test. See Mrs. McConahay for more information.

 

Rhodes State College Scholarships – application & scholarship materials must be submitted by April 23. Need 3.5 GPA and/or a 24 ACT composite. Go to www.rhodesstate.edu and click on “Need a Scholarship?” box on left hand side.

 

Ivy Tech Scholarships – deadline March 15, 3.2 GPA - $3,000 renewable or full tuition; $1,000 if in top ½ of graduating class. Visit www.ivytech.edu/fortwayne/apply-now

§  March 5: Grand Lake Area Insurance Women Scholarship Essay Competition Two $500 scholarships will be awarded. Any high school senior, male or female, is eligible to apply. If attend Wright State, the university will match the scholarship amount. Application in guidance office.

§  March 5: SAMMY 2010- Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Award. Apply on-line at: www.bodybymilk.com

§  March 12: MED Foundation scholarship – need 23 ACT composite and be pursuing a health related career. One $1500 scholarship to each Mercer Co. school! See Mrs. McConahay for application ASAP!

§  March 15: Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program – Volunteer efforts in last year, students ages 6-12, 13-18. Apply at www.kohlskids.com

§  March 22: West Central Ohio Safety Council scholarship – Two $500 awards to seniors pursuing a career in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Risk Management or related field. Must have a 3.0 GPA. Applications in guidance office.

§  March 31: Midmark Corporation scholarship worth $20,000 comes with summer employment opportunities and full time job after degree completion. Must be pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Engineering. Application in guidance office. More info at www.midmark.com

§  March 31: South Shore Sportsman Club offers two $500 scholarships to pursuing a field in conservation and/or wildlife management or related fields. Applications in guidance office.

§  March 31: Mercer County Pork Producers $300 Scholarship- Parent must be a member of the Mercer Co. Pork Producers. Application in guidance office.

§  April 1: OACCS Legislative Scholarship Program – need a “C” average or better, must be nominated by current member of the Ohio Legislature. Scholarships range from $2-12,000 for students working toward a Certificate, Diploma, or Associate Degree Program. See Mrs. McConahay or go to www.ohiocareercolleges.org for information on colleges included in this scholarship.

§  April 1: American Legion Auxiliary Girl Scout Achievement Award - $1,000 to junior or senior girl who has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award. Application in guidance office.

§  April 2: AAA Ohio Auto Club: ten $1,000 grants to high school seniors who once served as a member of the AAA School Safety Patrol. Applications online at www.aaa.com

§  April 2: University Women’s Club of Mercer Co. $1000 Scholarship Grant Program. Interest-free loans are also available. Application in guidance office.

§  April 5: William D. Squires Scholarship: 12 renewable scholarships to seniors in Ohio, each worth up to $3,000. Applicants must have an EFC(financial need from FAFSA) under $8,000. Must have a 3.2 GPA or higher, highly motivated, require financial aid to pursue goal. Apply at: www.wmdsquiresfoundation.org

§  April 15: C.R. Myers Memorial Scholarship – enroll in Ohio college, university or tech school in a major related to environmental sciences or environmental education. Download the application at www.oalprp.org

§  May 28: Dayton’s CW Television & Wright State University Scholarship- Write a 200 word essay, apply at www.Daytonscw.com

 

IPFW Scholarships: March 10 deadline for numerous scholarships. Check criteria at IPFW website: www.ipfw.edu/financial/scholar/freshman

 

Financial Aid Info: BGSU has Financial Aid TV (FATV) on their website. This free service provides short video answers to questions about paying for college. Go to http://www.bgsu.edu/offices/sfa.

Northwest Ohio Allied Health Consortium: Scholarship available each year $3,310 per year. The Consortium is made up of 3 Public two year colleges and one Private University, Rhodes State College, Marion Technical College, Northwest State Community College and Urbana University. April 15: Bud Shindeldecker Memorial Scholarship – seniors who attend St.Teresa Catholic Church.

April 15: Parkway Education Association Scholarship – must be pursuing degree in education.

April 30: Carey, Bill & Benny Memorial Scholarship – for seniors pursuing at least 2 years or more of education.

April 30: American Legion Post 508- for students not receiving other scholarships

April 30: Fred & Maree Roebuck Memorial Scholarship – must reside in Mendon or Union Township.

April 30: Don S Fisher Scholarship – GPA 3.0, financial need, community service

April 30: Mendon Lions’ Club & Women’s Civic Club Scholarships – must reside in Mendon or Union Township.

April 30: Parkway Music Boosters Scholarships – must be a member of Parkway Band.

April 30: Friends of the Library Scholarship & Parkway Community Organizations Scholarships – any college-bound seniors may apply.

April 30: Eugene Putman Memorial Scholarship – Senior living in Blackcreek Township and pursuing agriculture-related major.

April 30: Mendon CFFD – financial need, scholastic record & citizenship; must reside in former Mendon-Union school district.

 

Student Loans:

Mercer County Civic Foundation offers low interest $900 college loans. Interest (4%) does not begin to accrue until 6 months after graduation from college, and are interest-free if the loan is repaid within that time. Applications are available from the Mercer County Civic Foundation office at 119 W. Fulton St, Celina, OH  45822. 

Mercer County Civic Foundation also has a specific loan for Ohio Northern University Pharmacy majors. With appropriate proof of graduation, all ONU pharmacy loans become grants!

 

Medical Loans: The Medical Educational Foundation of the Academy of Medicine of Lima & Allen County, Ohio offers financial assistance to medical students. All monies are given as loans, not scholarships or grants. Upon completion of residency, if the physician practices in Allen County, the loan is repaid with no interest. Reminder: Meningitis Immunizations: available at Mercer County Health Dept. & at VW Co. Health Dept. Prices increase for ages 18 and over. Many colleges request students living in dorms have these immunizations.
