The basic objectives of Spanish I are:                                                    

·         Understand and respect Hispanic American culture.

·         Comprehend Spanish words, phrases, questions, and paragraphs without much difficulty.

·         Read and be able to pronounce the things mentioned above.

·         Write simple sentences and paragraphs in Spanish.

·         Speak in Spanish phrases and sentences.

The basic objectives for Japanese one are as follows:

  • Mastery of hiragana for uses of pronunciation, reading, and writing.
  • Development of cultural sensitivity toward ideas and concepts found both in Japan and in regular interactions with Japanese people outside of Japan.
  • Development of abilities in asking and answering simple questions in Japanese.
  • Development of the ability to respond to classroom structure, rules, and instructions as expected in Japanese.
  • Target skills to be mastered include: hiragana, basic vocabulary, handwriting, number structures, telling time, reading the calendar, shopping, and beginning grammar such as adjectives, nouns, and verbs.

  • Students will broaden their speaking communication abilities by watching a serialized drama, discussing it, and doing follow-up homework assignments.

·         Students will expand their understanding of Japanese grammatical structures by completing the textbook “Genki” and through involvement in class lectures.

·         Students will listen, speak, read, and write in Japanese.

·         Students will continue to broaden their speaking skills through use of broadcasted materials as basis for discussions and homework assignments.

·         Students will expand their vocabulary and fluency through interaction in a live mystery game.
