2100 AMERICAN HISTORY

Year Course 1.00 Credit

The study of American History concentrated on the years since the conclusion of the Civil War. The course will emphasize the American Heritage, the Diverse People in Society, the Democratic Process, World interaction, Decision Making and the Use of Resources and the Rights and Responsibilities entailed by American Citizenship. A variety of testing methods will be used to evaluate the students.

2101 CONTEMPORARY HISTORY

Grades 11-12

Are you concerned about topics that affect our contemporary society? If you are, then Contemporary History is a class you will want to take. Within this course we will discuss American responsibilities to third world problems. We will learn the difference between the old Soviet Union and today’s Russia. We will discuss nuclear delivery systems and the effects of a nuclear blast. We will come to understand the conflicts in the Middle East. We will discuss the conflicts between Jews and Arabs, and we will come to understand terrorism in the Middle East and how radicals defend violence.

If you are tired of never getting a chance to study recent American History in your required American History class, this is the course for you! This semester course will focus only on the last 50 years of American History. We will be discussing the Cold War and McCarthyism, the Korean War, the presidency of J.F.K., Civil Rights, the Vietnam War, Nixon, and Watergate, the Gulf War, and much more.

2104 SPECIAL TOPICS AND RESEARCH IN AMERICAN HISTORY

A weighted course that will investigate selected topics in American History including current events, local history and historical incidents as presented in motion pictures. Students will do research in these and in other areas of interest. They will become acquainted with sources and techniques used in historical research.

2105 WORLD HISTORY

Grade 10 This Course Is Required for All Sophomores

The student will know and understand how people, places and events in the past and present affect their daily living. They will know and understand the geographical makeup and physical environment of the world and its effect on society. Emphasis will be placed on those skills, written or oral, that would be useful in studying history and other social studies at the college level.

2107 SOCIAL STUDIES GUIDED READINGS

Readings in selected topics in American History and World History. Topics selected by the student in consultation with instructor. Grade is based on completion of readings and assigned written assignments.

2110 AMERICAN GOVERNMENT

Grade 12

The student will know and understand principle governments are founded upon early history of our Government, Constitution, and Amendment process, Federalism, Political Parties, Voting, Interest Groups and Public Opinion, Congress, Presidency, Civil Liberties, and Civil Rights. Grade is based on tests, quizzes, homework, and participation.

2111 ECONOMICS

Grade 12

Semester Course .50 Credit

Students will study Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Free Enterprise System, Demand, Supply, Prices, Market Structure, Business Organizations, Money and Banking, Gross Domestic Product, Consumer Price Index, Unemployment, Poverty, Inflation, International Trade, Personal Finance and Investment and Government Spending. Grade is based on tests, quizzes, homework, and participation.
