Art I is
the entry-level art course in the visual arts department. The objective of the course is to instill
historical knowledge, as well as, knowledge of the elements and principles of
design. This knowledge will be used to
create unique artistic creations in a variety of different mediums. This knowledge also serves as the groundwork
for future artistic study. The course
provides an individual with the means to appreciate and operate in an
increasing visual world. Hard work is
required.
1102 CERAMICS Prerequisite: Art I

The
student will create functional pottery utilizing hand building or wheel
throwing techniques. The student will
explore various decorative techniques while utilizing the elements and
principles of design. The work load is
heavy, the process is messy, but the results are rewarding.
1103 ADVANCED CERAMICS
Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: Ceramics, Art I

Advanced
ceramics is the second step for those students who excelled in the beginning
ceramic course. The student will utilize
hand building and wheel throwing methods of construction throughout the
duration of the course. The assignments
will be on a much larger scale in both size and artistic expression. Students participating in this course of
study must have a solid work ethic and detailed knowledge of the elements and
principles of design.
1104 DRAWING
Grades 10-12 Prerequisite:
Art I

The
second installment in the visual arts department is Drawing. This course builds on the knowledge attained
in Art I. Various drawing mediums will
be explored and a variety of elements and principles of design will be
examined. A great deal of the class will
concentrate on developing the ability to capture the human form. Historical events, places, and dates will be
discussed. The course will begin to hone
individual drawing skills, as well as, developing the ability to analyze fine
art.
1105 PAINTING
Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Art I & Drawing

The third
installment of the visual arts department is Painting. This course builds further on knowledge
attained in Art I and Drawing. Once
again, historical aspects will be explored, and a focus on the elements and
principles of design will take place.
The course will take a long look at color and the effects it can
produce. This course will also begin to
direct an individual towards a particular artistic style. This unique artistic style will not become a
mature style in this brief time period, but it will begin the process for these
future artists.
1106 SCULPTURE
Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Art I, Drawing & Painting

Sculpture
is an advanced art course that focuses specifically on the creation of
three-dimensional art. This course will
explore the historical aspects of sculpture, as well as, the techniques that
are needed to produce three-dimensional pieces.
This course is only for those students who are serious about their
artwork or interested in art as a career.
The workload is heavy and the work is messy. A strong work ethic and time on task is
necessary to succeed in this course of study.
